Sat 20 November, 2010
A veteran hotelier in the region has warned that Anguilla must not over develop and spoil its unique product.
Executive Vice President of the Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association Sue Springer who has some thirty years in the industry gave these words of caution during the Anguilla Hotel and Tourism Association Annual General Meeting on Thursday afternoon at Cap Juluca Hotel.
She said Anguilla must not over develop like some of the other Caribbean islands.
Ms Springer also spoke of global trends in the tourism industry, noting there is an ageing population who still want to travel because they are looking for more activities.
She said the present festivals in Anguilla are good and mentioned that the island can have even more festivals because people will come specifically to attend the events.
The seasoned hotelier also stressed the need to be authentic and not to copy other destinations so that the tourists will have a good experience to remember and therefore will want to return to the island.
