Health Planner stresses importance of strengthening HIU
Mon 22 November, 2010

Health Planner Mr. Lynrod Brooks is stressing the importance of strengthening the Health Information Unit (HIU)in Anguilla.

His remarks come at the heels of the recent conclusion of a two-day workshop on Basic Indicators and Data Analysis in Public Health in Barbados.

The Health Planner says strengthening the Unit is important so that Anguilla is not only in the best possible position to manage disease outbreaks but also to make sound decisions.

He says efforts are being made to continually improve the island’s surveillance and health information systems as there is the need to respond effectively to the threats of communicable and non communicable diseases.

Brooks said that data collection and analysis is a major challenge in the Ministry of Health and will be seeking technical cooperation from PAHO to conduct in-house training on Data Management and Analysis with focus on health related MDG’s

Anguilla was also represented by Health Information Coordinator, Mrs Celia Brooks.

The workshop was sponsored by the Pan American Health Organization, ECC Office, in collaboration with the program on Health Analysis in the PAHO Headquarters Office.

One of the objectives of the workshop was to agree on a joint work plan to achieve a sustainable integrated basic health indicators platform, for the Eastern Caribbean Countries.
